Please join us for the October First Friday opening night featuring artist José Alec Cabrera. José has been painting since he was a boy in Colombia, South America. His biggest influence growing up was living close to the farmers and the green forest with his family. José moved to Canada 16 years ago, and he now works as an artist volunteer at Arts AccessAbility Network Manitoba. He also participated in the Disability Matters Vote Rally as a representative of AANM.
Artist statement: I am very influenced and respectful of Nature. Some of my paintings are influenced by the sketches I create with my auxiliary architectural knowledge which I combine with images of animals, birds, and the landscape. I am also influenced by the different facial expressions of Canadians, Aboriginals, and South Americans as they are a connection to the spirit within. I am interested in opening myself and my artwork the precious gifts we have with nature and in our souls.
José’s work will remain on display for the month of October.
