FemFest 2018: Staging Resistance! ASL Show list

On behalf of Sarasvati Productions:

FemFest 2018: Staging Resistance! This year we’re offering three ASL-interpreted shows as part of the festival: Burnt, White Man’s Indian, and Sound of the Beast.

Burnt is an inventive solo performance based on interviews with people Norah Paton met in her travels to the Burning Man festival. Burnt highlights Norah Paton’s skill at playing many distinct characters and vividly depicts Burning Man with all of its music, dust storms, and chaos. White Man’s Indian, another solo performance, is written and performed by Winnipeg’s own Darla Contois. White Man’s Indian is the darkly comical story of a Cree teenage girl named Eva in search of herself and a space for her identity in a world full of racism, teen angst, and evil prom queens. Coming in from Toronto, Sound of the Beast is a powerful solo performance combining storytelling, spoken word, and hip-hop inspired by Tunisian emcee Weld-El 15. Donna-Michelle St. Bernard, a.k.a. Belladonna the Blest, is a two-time Governor General’s Award nominee. The sound of the Beast highlights St. Bernard’s quick wit and quicker rhymes and reflects on identity, racism, and what happens when authority is questioned.

We will be offering ASL interpretation for all three shows:

· Burnt – September 20th at 7 PM

· White Man’s Indian – September 21st at 7 PM

· Sound of the Beast – September 22nd at 7 PM

Tickets for all three shows start at $15. We also have festival passes available through our website at www.femfest.ca. For more on all the great shows, we have on, check out our website or see the attached brochure!
