AANM in collaboration with Matter Queer Space Manitoba is inviting all d/deaf and disabled 2SQTBIPOC artists to submit their work for REST & RESIST, a juried group exhibition opening in February 2027.

This Call to Artists is open to individuals who identify within all three identity groups: disability, race, and queerness.
Submission deadline: September 30, 2026 at 11:59pm
Theme Description:
“I believe in saying to the systems [of] white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy, ableism, all the systems that really degrade our humanity and degrade our divinity, and don’t see us as human beings [that] we can push back and disrupt against them, even in small ways, by simply saying, ‘No, you can’t have me. I don’t belong to you. I don’t belong to the systems. My body is my own, my time is my own. The legacy I come from is my own rich history’.”
– Tricia Hersey
What does it mean for multiply-marginalized individuals to resist the systems that oppress them? What does rest mean for bodies that are constantly trying to survive the threats of ableism, queer-/trans-/homophobia, racism, white supremacy, capitalism, and the patriarchy?
REST & RESIST centres the lived experiences of d/Deaf and disabled 2SQTBIPOC artists who are challenging narratives, stigma, and oppression, through acts of rest and resistance. Visions of the self in spaces—now and in the future—are explored through real and/or imagined mechanisms of survival. REST & RESIST reveals ancestral and inner wisdom, projected in the desire for regeneration and liberation.
(The title REST & RESIST is inspired by Tricia Hersey’s manifesto Rest is Resistance. Tricia Hersey is the creator of The Nap Ministry.)
